Hope Force International is excited to announce a new level of collaboration with the U.S. division of Smith & Nephew (Memphis, TN) – one of the world's largest provider of orthopaedic supplies – through their Apollo Program. Hope Force International has been chosen to be the designated charity which will receive surplus orthopaedic supplies from this generous company, creating a greater level of readiness for immediate aftermath response in times of disasters such as earthquakes.
Recently, HFI Founders, Jack and Cherie Minton, along with Julie Browne (wife of Dr. Tim Browne), Dr. Toney and Gina Russell and HFI Reservists, Nancy Grisham and Dick and Alice Carmichael, sorted and inventoried a recent donation of ortho supplies worth over $1 million dollars. It was a rewarding experience for everyone involved, knowing that this generous gift will soon enhance and improve the lives of people around the world. We wish to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to Smith & Nephew!
Dr. Russell and Dr. Browne -- both Hope Force board members -- will be leading a Hope Force surgical outreach to El Salvador this coming Fall. (All HFI medical reservists: stay tuned to see how you might be involved!) In the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami that devastated thousands of lives, Drs. Toney and Tim led a Hope Force International surgical outreach to Sri Lanka, where they performed many surgeries and worked with local surgeons -- both in the surgical theatre as well as educating in the classroom. During that outreach, Hope Force International also collaborated with Smith & Nephew, receiving a generous donation worth over $1 Mil, shipped free of charge by Fed Ex.
