The Haiti team was headed by Les Barkley, whose son is USC Quarterback, Matt Barkley. Les was a first responder after the earthquake in 2010. “For these young men who live in a world of hype and glory to come here and work as a team – it’s quite amazing,” Les said. “I’m thankful to the HFI team, and I’m excited to see how each young man on the USC team can take what he’s learned back on the football field.”

The Trojans are an NCAA Division 1 football team boasting 11 national championships and six Heisman trophy winners. In 2009 ESPN solidified the team’s reputation as a college football powerhouse by rating the USC football program second best in all of NCAA history. Ranked number one for the 2012 season by ESPN, this year’s team is expected to live up to the Trojan standard of excellence.

The USC Trojan team delivered supplies to local schools and orphanages, and brought the ministry of presence to a nation still recovering from 2010’s devastating earthquake. In addition to a number of other players, the Haiti team included past USC football captains and all four current off-season captains.

Sixteen members of the 2012 University of Southern California Trojan football team, as well as several other USC students and Hope Force staff members, recently returned from a Haiti deployment focused on the “Houses of Hope” project. The team built four homes, participated in a gift distribution for children in the Child Sponsorship Program.

Over the weekend, Hope Force deployed a large response team to Harvest, Alabama, which was hit hard by Friday's tornadoes. HFI worked extensively in this town, near Huntsville, after last April's super-cell tornado outbreak. Some residents who lost everything last year find themselves, sadly, facing severe loss once again. While HFI teams tarped roofs, emotional and spiritual caregivers reached out to Harvest's citizens.

Christmas in Haiti, December 9 Christmas in Haiti, December 9
Far away in HFI’s adopted village of Sous Savanne, Haiti, on December 9th, the children gathered in a local church – excitedly waiting for their Christmas gifts. Singing “Silent Night” in Creole, the children were delighted to receive their own gift bags, provided by their Hope Force child sponsors who generously gave from across the United States.

On December 9th,several members of Gateway Community Church of South Riding, Virginia – a Hope Force partner congregation – made the trek to McDowell County, West Virginia to deliver the Christmas gift requests of 150 children, including many elderly and adults with special needs. Also present were HFI founders Jack and Cherie Minton and Craig Snow, director of HFI’s Appalachia program.

Nearly twenty months after the Haitian earthquake, Hope Force's efforts continue to help rebuild the nation. Staff members, Rene and Marianne Lako, recently completed a six-week assessment project, designed to build the foundation for upcoming Reservist deployments and development projects. The work was done with the cooperation of local beneficiaries and organizations.

Hurricane Irene Response 2011 - Vermont Hurricane Irene Response 2011 - Vermont
National Guard helicopters rushed food and water to a dozen Vermont towns cut off by flooding over August 27 and 28. Hurricane Irene destroyed bridges, washed out roads and left several towns with sections underwater. HFI had personnel on the ground within days of the disaster and remains committed to helping Vermont recover. (Photos CBS and HFI)
