Miracles in our Midst

March 2, 2010: The stories we continue to receive from Haiti serve to build up our faith tremendously. We are so proud of each one who has served already or is currently serving. We are also grateful for the fact that God has allowed us to partner with such amazing people. Erin McRorie is an Emergency Room Nurse who joined our medical team in the Leogane region of Haiti. Her story shows the amazing possibilities that exist when a group of talented, committed people come together in a cohesive team, intent on one purpose and vision.

“God had His hand on our trip from the very start.” Erin recalls. “We were truly blessed. As soon as anyone verbalized a need or even prayed about it, that need was fulfilled. I saw this happen over and over again. One example of this was seeing the airline allow 30 medical bags that we checked go with no extra baggage charge. All 19 of us also cleared customs without a hitch. Another miracle was having just enough medication to stop the hemorrhaging of a woman who had just given birth an hour earlier. There was only enough for one person. Even more, having a midwife on our team who was so essential to the trip was a miracle. She was more needed than she will ever know.

“We can attribute this to the many people who were praying for us back at home. Each of us had at least eight people pray for us while we were in Haiti. I know I had many more people praying. God definitely had His hand on this trip. I have no doubt about it.”

“As a medical team we flew to Haiti to heal wounds, but that quickly changed to include the healing of hearts. We wanted to show these people that it was God working through us to heal their wounds. Just like Jesus in the Parable of the Sower, we went out to not only provide medical care, but more importantly to "proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God" as the book of Luke relates.

"We had the opportunity to pray for each patient we helped, but I think the true miracle was the nine translators we had alongside us. These men saw us providing emotional, physical and spiritual care for over 400 people a day. Working hand in hand, closely with these gentlemen, they were witnesses of the power of Christ. One translator, Idole, a man I worked with in the pharmacy for two days made the decision to follow Christ. Idole toiled with the decision to accept Jesus Christ into his life for three days, finally bringing Him into his life only hours before we began our journey home.

“These translators, now including Idole, will be the good seed in the parable mentioned above where "The seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop." Luke 8:15. These fine men will go out to the nation of Haiti, spread the good work they have seen and share their faith with others....

“One fear of mine was having another large earthquake/aftershock while we were there in Haiti. As another teammate and I prayed about this the fear was lifted off of my shoulders. We never did have any large aftershocks. I felt four very small, quick aftershocks but that fear was long gone. That is how God provided for my own needs.

“The last miracle I will share was when our truck broke down a half an hour from the clinic. The guys discovered we had lost a bolt from the truck. We walked about 100 yards and found the bolt. Only God could have given us the sight to find this dirty bolt in the middle of the street!

“We may not see a national change in Haiti for decades, but the change has started and the seed has been planted. I look forward to watching that crop develop and flourish!"
