Hope Force International (HFI) is busily preparing for the threat of future disasters. In recent months, we have been blessed to have several new and experienced staff join us in our endeavors to broaden the pathway to service. We are very grateful, and we believe that each individual represents God’s faithful provision in response to prayer. As we enter into the official beginning of this year’s hurricane season, one can’t help but reflect upon the heartbreaking devastation of 2005 and 2006. According to the United Nations and Belgium's Louvain research center, there was almost a 20% increase in natural disasters worldwide in 2005. Damage reached $159 billion, up 71% from 2004 -- almost entirely because of destruction from Hurricane Katrina!

Experts are predicting that we have entered into a cycle where severe and increased hurricane activity can be expected for the next ten years or more. With this in mind, it becomes all the more urgent for Christ's followers to be prepared to put their love of God into compassionate action. Hebrews 6:10 states that, “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” It appears that when we help others, God takes it personal. This is further reflected in Matthew 25:40 where Jesus tells the parable of the sheep and the goats: "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” |
In addition to our training of disaster responders, we continue our Katrina recovery efforts along the Gulf Coast. If you are interested in becoming a Hope Force Reservist, or if you think your church would be interested in sending a team to partner in our recovery efforts, please contact us and we’ll gladly provide the information you need. Again, thank you for praying and giving generously to the ministry of compassionate action unto those in great need. May you know God’s abundant blessing in every area of your life.
