HOPE FORCE INTERNATIONAL PREPARES TO PARTNER WITH INTERNATIONAL RELIEFAGENCIES TO AID TSUNAMI SURVIVORS

IN ASIA AND INDIA Like you, our heart breaks as we consider the terrible loss of life and property suffered by the people of south eastern Asia and India. Please join us in prayer for the recovery efforts now underway, and for a spirit of generosity and compassion from the world community, and the Body of Christ, in particular.

Hope Force International (HFI) is collecting funds in an effort to offer emergency disaster relief to the survivors of what is considered to be one of the world's most powerful earthquakes, and the ensuing tsunami that decimated coastal south eastern Asia and India on Sunday. Multitudes of people have suffered the loss of home and property and countless thousands are still reported missing. The need for clean water, adequate sanitation, food, and shelter is great, as well as urgent medical needs. The storm surge contaminated clean water sources with sewage and seawater. As a result, malaria, diarrhea, cholera and typhoid will be a potential threat to the health of the survivors.

Hope Force International is convinced that, at this time, the most effective response will come as a result of supporting the efforts of long-term indigenous organizations. We have been in communication with Humedica Germany and Humedica Sri Lanka in an effort to ascertain how HFI may be of benefit. In addition to the efforts of the indigenous staff, Humedica already has a team of health professionals from Europe on location working alongside their Sri Lankan counterparts. In fact, we received an e-mail from the director of Humedica, Wolfgang Gross, in which he stated the following: "I arrived today, Monday noon, with a medical team of eight, plus sufficient medicines to treat 3,000 patients on a free flight from Dusseldorf to Colombo with LTU airlines." When asked how HFI could help, Wolfgang replied, "There will be a huge need for rehabilitation of simple homes for poor people, which were totally destroyed, or to distribute food and hygiene packs for affected families."

HFI also has relationships with several other agencies currently undertaking relief efforts in the region. We will be processing ways in which we might collaborate with their efforts as well. There is the possibility that, through existing relationships, HFI could be involved in future recovery efforts. However, we do know that there is need of financial resources immediately.
