Boat Handing Over
Boat Handing Over
(written by Jack Minton)

Very early on, Hope Force International determined that we should focus our attention upon the economic recovery needs of the effected fishing families, and we set out to secure funding for this purpose. On June 5th, near Point Pedro, our team had the great privilege and pleasure of participating in the handing over ceremony of 17 boats, motors, and nets to those whose whole livelihood was taken from them by the tsunami. (This will provide employment for 51 families.) The next evening, we were all invited to return to Point Pedro, where we were hosted for dinner by the leaders of the local fishing association, and the leader of the tsunami recovery taskforce. We began with a time of sitting on the ocean front, where we were told of their gratitude, and desire for ongoing relationship. Next, we were escorted through the night through a winding narrow passageway to the home of one of the fishermen, where we were plied with wonderful Sri Lankan delicacies until we were more than satisfied.

Our entire team was deeply moved as we witnessed the fruition of much prayer and hard work becoming a reality. We were overwhelmed with the great privilege it is to put our faith in God into compassionate action. I wish that each one who helped to make this possible could have been with us to experience, and see first-hand, the depth of joy and renewed hope that emanated from the smiles and glowing eyes of adults and children alike. On behalf of the Sri Lankan people for whom you have willingly and generously extended kindness in Jesus name – THANK YOU!
